With SUVs and big pickup trucks gaining in popularity over the last several years, car manufacturers have taken note, and nice mid-sized sedans have become increasingly difficult to find. Fortunately, Honda has not only refused to abandon the Accord line but has transformed the 2024 Honda Accord into a shining example of practical elegance. In fact, Car and Driver has placed it number one on its list of Best Mid-Size Family Sedans.

Design

The exterior and interior of the 2024 Accord are distinguished by sleekly attractive yet practical design elements. For instance, the cabin has clever touches such as hiding the dashboard vents behind a long expanse of stunning honeycomb-shaped trim. Better yet, active noise cancellation quiets road noise and the front seats have been redesigned to provide firmer support, making even long trips more comfortable. For added convenience, the trunk has been reshaped to hold almost 17 cubic feet of cargo.

Performance

A 1.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine is standard in the 2024 Accord’s lowest trim levels. It delivers 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. Estimated fuel economy ratings are 29 mpg on city roads and 37 mpg on the highway. The entire lineup is front-wheel drive and even the base model has some very desirable standard features, such as:

  • Electric parking brake with automatic hold
  • Eco assist system
  • Hill start assist
  • Immobilizer system
  • Remote engine start
  • Push button start

Technology

The Accord’s LX base model has a four-speaker audio system with speed-sensitive volume control and a 10.2-inch customizable Driver Information Interface. The infotainment system includes a color 7-inch touchscreen display, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, stolen vehicle locator, Bluetooth streaming audio, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, and SMS text messaging. A 3.0 amp USB-C charging port and 3.0 amp USB audio and smartphone interface are found in the front console.

Honda has a mobile app, HondaLink, available for Android and iOS. It offers basic complimentary information about your vehicle’s fuel, mileage, and oil, a Vehicle Health Report, and notifications about maintenance reminders and warning lights. You also get three-month free trials for the Concierge, Security, and Remote subscriptions.

Safety

Few things are more appreciated in a family sedan than knowing it is one of the safest vehicles on the road, and the 2024 Accord scores big in that regard. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded the model a perfect 5-star overall safety rating and Honda has provided even the lowest trim level with an impressive number of standard safety features, including:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Collision mitigation braking system
  • Road departure mitigation system
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-keeping assist system
  • Traffic jam assist
  • Traffic sign recognition system
  • Driver attention monitor
  • Automatic collision notification
